About The Little London Winds

The Little London winds is 30 years old now. It was started by a small group of folks to have an outlet to play quality music at a high level. We wanted to be much more than a typical community band.

We seek and have attracted musicians of all ages, some of whom have played professionally at some point.

While the musicianship we seek is high, we also want to attract folks who fit into our culture. And while we want to play seriously, we also want to have fun doing it; enjoying each other's camaraderie and being energized by our rehearsals and concerts.

Our Rehearsals

Rehearsals are Monday nights from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. They are currently held at Vista Ridge High School, located at 6888 Black Forest Road. We take a few weeks off at the end of the summer, Thanksgiving, a few weeks at Christmas, and Spring Break.

Our Concert Schedule

In the last years, we have developed the following typical concert schedule. That said, we are flexible and look for interesting opportunities.

Fall: We play a formal concert of quality band literature, something the members can sink their teeth into and also appeals to the audience. Six to seven rehearsals are typically available.

Winter: We play a traditional Christmas concert consisting of standard pieces (e.g. Sleigh Ride) and perhaps some new or modern pieces or arrangements (e.g. Mannheim Steamroller).

Winter: We have played a Hanukkah concert at Temple Shalom for over 15 years. It's a unique opportunity, one that draws a big audience and that the members enjoy. We have a number of appropriate pieces in our library and are on the lookout for more.

Spring: We have a school outreach program and play joint concerts with  students at area schools. The kids play, we play, the kids sit next to us while we play, and then we play a piece together.

Summer: This is a biggie. We play nine consecutive Monday night concerts at Soda Springs Park in Manitou Springs. We've been doing this for over 25 years, and it has become a staple of Manitou in the summer. The music is usually less challenging than a Fall concert and crowd pleasers. Rehearsals for these start in April. Concerts start the third week of June, so there's time between a rehearsal and it's concert. It's a challenge!

In addition to these concerts, we are sometimes asked to perform for other events and are happy to do so if it fits in with our schedule. Mostly, we play music already rehearsed for another concert.

Music Director Duties & Expectations

We are looking for someone for the long term. This is only the fourth time we have sought out a conductor in 30 years!

The music director will be expected to perform the following duties:
